5 F.A.Q. about the CA Smog Check

We at ER Smogs strive to help all our of our customers regardless of whether or not they use our services. So as a help to all CA consumers we have compiled a list of questions that we are frequently asked and are often misunderstood.

1. Do I need to smog my car even though the last time it was at a smog station was less that 90 days ago.

To start off, yes and no.

Yes – If the previous owner already used up the “certificate” or easily understood as a “token” to register his/her car, for renewal, then you must bring your car into a Sacramento Smog Check Station and re-smog the vehicle.

No – If the previous owner smogged the vehicle but hasn’t used up his/her “certificate” or “token” then you may be able to use this previous smog “certificate” for a transfer or title.

Although laws and regulations change you can read more about how the transfer process works at http://dmv.ca.gov

2. My car has failed for a “Check Engine Light” the technician says I need a catalytic converter, it costs $500 and he says it will pass.

Rule number one of the program on becoming a License Smog Check Station in Sacramento is

“Never throw a cat (Catalytic Converter) without diagnosing the problem correctly.”

Here at ER Smogs we correctly diagnose and repair any and all problems to help our customers pass the CA State Smog Check.
