What is a Brake and Lamp Inspection?
A:
The purpose of the Brake and Lamp Inspection & Certification is
to make sure that a salvage titled vehicle is safe to drive on the
road prior to being retitled.
When you "rebuild" a salvaged vehicle, because of either accident damage
or theft of your vehicle, the CA DMV considers the owner of the vehicle to be changed,
although the owner remains the same.
DMV requires that a Licensed Inspection station conduct a complete
and thorough inspection of critical components which may have been damaged
as a result of the accident or due to a theft damage.
A motor vehicle might also need an inspection to correct a defect
citied by a local law enforcement agency or the CHP, California Highway Patrol.
After the defect is corrected and inspected by a Licensed Facility, a certificate
will be issued to be presented to the DMV or CHP as proof of repair.

defects in the vehicles brake system, this includes but is not limited to: brake pads, brake rotors,
brake drums, brake shoes, wheel cylinders, brake calipers, Anti-Lock Brake System, etc. and all brake
parts are within manufacture specification, and no hazard exists which may cause the brake system to fail.

Q: How is the Lamp Inspection done?
A: For the Lamp portion of the Brake and Lamp Inspection, a licensed technician will verify that
the lighting system of the vehicle is in proper working condition. This includes using specially
designed aiming equipment to adjust the headlamps, verify beam strength as well as an inspection
of all outside (exterior) lamps, which may be but not limited to: turn signals, brake lights, corner lights
,third brake lamp, clearance lights.
Once successfully completed, the technician will issue
a certificate, good for 90 days, to be presented to the DMV, CHP, or any other angency.
